Decapitated Chickens Found In Great River Beach: SPCA

The chickens were dismembered as part of a ritualistic sacrifice, the SPCA says.

GREAT RIVER, NY - Six decapitated chickens were found at a beach in Great River last week, according to the Suffolk County SPCA.

On Thursday, officers discovered that the chickens were left in a wicker basket covered with a blue fabric and surrounded with grain, fruit and candles by West Brook Pond by Montauk Highway.

Suffolk County SPCA consulted with an expert who confirmed that this is a ritualistic sacrifice or offering to Yemaya, the Goddess of the Ocean and involves dismemberment of chickens.
