“I wasn’t really looking to have the title of valedictorian,” Eichler said. “I just try to put an effort into whatever I do at school, and I am happy I received some recognition.”

Eichler is considering attending Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where he plans to study architecture before pursuing a career in business. His goal is to build a career in real estate.

Mai, East Islip’s salutatorian, serves as the district’s ex officio board of education member, co-president of the Science Honor Society, vice president of the Class of 2026 and student government secretary.

She is also a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society, and the World Language Honor Society.

Mai has not yet decided on a college, but plans to pursue nursing. Her goal is to become a registered nurse and eventually a certified registered nurse anesthetist.

“I am really surprised to be named salutatorian, but I’m happy and grateful,” Mai said.
