Press release from East Islip School District:

April 8, 2021

For this year’s Ghost-Out Day on March 26, East Islip High School’s Students Against Destructive Decisions Club was joined by Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi, who interviewed the school’s Grim Reaper, a SADD student volunteering to “strike” fellow students to highlight substance abuse awareness. For safety purposes, the students “chosen” wore masks noting they had been struck by the Reaper rather than T-shirts.

“Even though there is a pandemic, SADD felt it is still very important to show the statistic that every 13 minutes someone dies due to drugs and alcohol,” club adviser Bridget Lopiccolo said. “This statistic is unacceptable. Legislator Cilmi has been an advocate of our SADD programs and wanted to let the students know to keep up the good work.”
