East Islip School Budget Passes

The votes are in. The absentee ballots were counted and the community approved the 2020-2021 school budget.

EAST ISLIP, NY β€” Residents within the East Islip School District boundaries voted to approve the 2020-21 school budget by a margin of 4,050 votes to 1,834.

Residents voted on the district's proposed $120,505,188 spending plan for the school year, a 0.14 percent increase from the current budget. To fund the increase, the district proposed a tax levy of $71,910,497 up 0 percent from the current year's.

For the district's five-person Board of Education, voters re-elected President William Carpluk, who received 3,914 votes, over challenger Israel Malinowitzer, who received 1,764 votes.

In addition, incumbent trustee Christopher Zachry, who ran unopposed, was also re-elected with 5,035 votes.
