East Islip Residents Approve School Budget

East Islip residents headed to the polls Tuesday to vote on a school budget and elect a new board member.

EAST ISLIP, NY - East Islip residents approved the district's $120,334,922 proposed budget on Tuesday by a margin of 1,292 to 800.

The budget represents a 2.78 percent spending increase over the current year and a tax levy increase of 0.80 percent.

In the vote for East Islip Board of Education members, Christopher Nicolia beat out Charles Kalinowski for the one open seat left by Steven Behan, who did not seek re-election.

Nicolia received 1,068 votes while Kalinowski received 850 votes.
