Man Charged In Islip Terrace Road Rage Shooting: Police

The 57-year-old fired shots at a driver after cutting him off at a gas station on Tuesday morning, according to State Police.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY - A Centereach man was arrested after a road rage shooting incident in Islip Terrace on Tuesday morning, according to State Police.

The incident began at 5:20 a.m. at the Gulf gas station on Sunrise Highway in Islip Terrace when a driver exited the gas station into the path of 57-year-old Paul Rizzo Jr., police said.

The two then continued driving onto the westbound Southern State Parkway with both vehicles swerving at each other until Exit 43 where Rizzo grabbed his loaded handgun and fired one round from his driver’s window, striking the front passenger side of the other vehicle, police said.

The other driver called 911 and followed Rizzo until members of State Police pulled over both on the Long Island Expressway at Commack Road, police said.

Rizzo was then arrested and charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, first degree reckless endangerment, second degree criminal mischief, second degree menacing, reckless endangerment of property and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.

The other driver was not charged. No injuries were reported.

Rizzo is being held for arraignment at Suffolk County First District Court.
