Man Fatally Struck By Car On Sunrise Highway

The 32-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene early Saturday.

ISLIP TERRACE, NY – A 32-year-old man was struck and killed by a car while trying to cross Sunrise Highway on foot Saturday morning, police said.

According to Suffolk Police, Julio Resto was attempting to cross westbound Sunrise Highway, west of Connetquot Avenue, when he was struck by a 2002 Toyota, driven by Francis Scheyder.

Resto, of Rhode Island, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Scheyder, 54, of Bohemia, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for evaluation.

The Toyota was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing and anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
