Missing Boater Found Dead In Great South Bay

GREAT SOUTH BAY, NY - An East Islip man who went missing on Monday after falling off a boat in the Great South Bay was found dead floating in the water on Wednesday afternoon, according to Suffolk Police.

Samuel Gutierrez, 47, was a passenger on a boat when he fell overboard without a life jacket on at about 11 p.m.

Marine Bureau and Aviation Section officers conducted a search over the area during the next two days.

Officers responded to the Great South Bay after a 911 caller reported a body found in the water at 2 p.m. just south of Timber Point. The body has been identified as Gutierrez.

The body is being transported to the office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death.
