Tractor-Trailer Overturns After Striking Parkway Overpass

ISLIP TERRACE, NY – A tractor-trailer struck an overpass on a Long Island parkway Thursday night.

It happened around 9 p.m. on the westbound Heckscher State Parkway in Islip Terrace. The tractor-trailer overturned after hitting the Manhattan Boulevard overpass. No injuries were reported.

As of 11 p.m., all westbound lanes on the parkway are closed.

It's the third time in less than a month that a commercial vehicle has struck an overpass on a Long Island parkway. On Wednesday, a Walmart delivery truck struck an overpass on the Meadowbrook State Parkway. And last month, a coach bus slammed into an overpass on the Southern State Parkway, injuring more than 40 students and chaperones aboard as they returned from a trip to Europe.

No commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, are permitted on Long Island parkways.
