Accused Suspect Arrested in East Village Apartment Stabbing

EAST VILLAGE — A man was arrested yesterday in connection to the stabbing at an East Village apartment building Monday morning, police said.

The man and woman were stabbed at the apartment community 1 Haven Plaza at 200 Avenue C. at around 8:50 a.m., police told Patch.

Jayson Avila, who is also a resident at 1 Haven Plaza, was arrested Monday in relation with the incident, police said. Avila was charged with two counts of assault and two counts of attempted murder, police told Patch.

DNAinfo spoke with residents at 1 Haven Plaza Tuesday. Several residents said they thought Avila suffered from mental illness and that he had stopped taking his medication at the time of the stabbing. Read the full DNAinfo article here.
