Beloved Italian Sandwich Spot To Open New East Village Space

Inspired by the neighborhood's bar scene, the shop will have weekend-only breakfast sandwiches.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Regina's Grocery, a cult-favorite Italian sandwich shop, is preparing to open a new location in the East Village this week, owner Roman Grandinetti told Patch.

The grand opening for the new Regina's Grocery at First Avenue and East 7th Street is planned for Thursday evening, followed by a fuller rollout that weekend, Grandinetti said.

Inspired by the neighborhood's bar scene, the shop will have weekend-only breakfast sandwiches, including one exclusive sandwich that Grandinetti said is a perfect hangover cure: Sunday sauce over eggs.

This is the brand's sixth store, and the first location to serve breakfast, Grandinetti said. The opening is part of a plan to open 10 locations by the end of the year.

"This is going to be a little bit of the new Regina's 2.0. This is now the sixth store we have opened," he said. "We've learned so much from these openings, and I think this is the one that we feel the most confident in."

Grandinetti, who named the shop after his mom, is prioritizing keeping things authentic and family-oriented while organically growing his business.

"I feel like it's another one of those neighborhoods that just feel authentic and feel very Regina's, so we're psyched to be here," he said of the East Village.

Regina's Grocery will be located at 111 First Ave.
