Family reunions are a common ritual in American society but sometimes they go terribly wrong as depicted in the independent feature film "The Devil is a Liar."

The dramatic and psychological thriller will have its streaming premiere on Prime Video and Tubi on Oct. 8.

Principal photography, directed by Paige B. Alston, follows the embattled Regina (played by Zakiyyah BG) who reunites with her emotionally distant mother Carol (played by Juliette Fairley) and 'perfect patty' sibling Cassie (played by Ameerah Garrison) on a family vacation at their abandoned Michigan lakehouse.

"The Devil Is A Liar is my love letter to women survivors and my honest warning to all of us still walking through the fire," Alston told Patch.

The 90-minute feature was filmed on location at St. Clair Lake by Clarke Bishop in 2025 during a time when Alston was pregnant with her second child.

The ensemble cast includes Don Snipes whose character, Enoch, is Regina's mysterious high school sweetheart, and Shiek Mahmud-Bey as the villainous Uncle Charles whose memory haunts the lakehouse and anyone who dares to sleep in it overnight.

While most family homecomings consist of happiness and togetherness, "The Devil is a Liar" shows how easily old wounds can resurface when individuals are trapped under one roof for too long.

In addition to "The Devil is a Liar," Alston's directing credits include Meeting Boone, Chasing After You, and Jordan's Love while Fairley's acting credits include Onur Tukel's Summer of Blood, Spike Lee's M.O.N.Y., The Challenger starring the late Michael Clarke Duncan, and the short film Fatal Negligence, which is undergoing an Oscar-qualifying run at the Laemmle Theatre in Santa Monica from Sept. 11 through Sept. 17.

Paris Films, founded by Paris Jones, produced the character-driven movie. In addition to The Devil Is a Liar, Paris Films' credits include Sender starring Jamie Lee Curtis and The Housekeeper starring Denise Richards.
