Child Found Dead In East Village Apartment: NYPD

EAST VILLAGE, NY — An investigation is underway after a child was found dead in an East Village apartment, the NYPD said.

Officer responded to 32 East 10th St., Apt. 2, on Thursday for a call of an "aided infant" inside the apartment. They found 21-month-old Reid Smith unconscious and unresponsive, police said.

Smith was taken to Beth Israel Hospital and pronounced dead, police said, and no visible signs of trauma were found. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Police did not say whether there had been any arrests.
