Gas Leak In East Village Forces Evacuation Of Dozens, NYPD Says

The gas leak was reported shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, an FDNY spokesman said.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Dozens of people were evacuated from an East Village building during a gas leak, an FDNY spokesman said.

The gas leak was reported at 40 E. 12th Street, located between Broadway and University Place, shortly after 10 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said. Seventy people were evacuated from the building, the FDNY spokesman said.

Con Edison is working to fix the gas leak and the situation is considered to be deescalating, an FDNY spokesman said.
