Person Struck, Killed by 6 Train in Astor Place Station: FDNY

The person was pinned under the train and died, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A person died after being struck by a downtown 6 train at the Astor Place subway station, an FDNY spokesman told Patch.

The train became stalled in the station Tuesday around 11:20 p.m. as emergency personnel responded to the scene and eventually passengers were evacuated from the train.

Several witnesses told a Patch reporter they saw the person jump in front of the train.

One man told a Patch reporter on the scene that he witnessed the grisly scene while exiting the train.

"I saw the body parts when I opened the door to move from the second car to the first car," Jose Peralta said. "Not whole body parts but tissue."

Service on 4, 5, and 6 lines has been delayed due to the emergency response at the station, according to the MTA.
