19-Year-Old Charged In Amagansett Hit-And-Run: Police

An 18-year-old pedestrian from Hong Kong was seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Amagansett, police say.

AMAGANSETT, NY — A Hong Kong teenager was seriously injured after he was struck by a driver who sped off in Amagansett Tuesday night, police said.

The crash happened at 11:35 p.m. on Old Stone Highway near Eastwood Court when Daniel Campbell, 19, of Montauk, was driving north in a 2012 Honda Pilot and struck Devesh Santani, 18, who was walking in the road, police said. Campbell drove off and was arrested at his home at 2:43 a.m. Wednesday morning, police said.

Campbell was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and is scheduled to be arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court at a later date, police said.

Santani was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in serious condition, police said.
