3,400-Pound Great White Shark Hanging Out in The Hamptons

The famous 3,400-pound great white shark "pinged" just a couple miles south of East Hampton on Thursday night, according to OCEARCH, a nonprofit organization dedicated to shark research that tracks Mary Lee and about 100 other sharks around the world.

Mary Lee, who has nearly 95,000 followers on Twitter, was off the East Hampton coast at 7:59 p.m. Thursday. A day earlier, she was tracked a few dozen miles south of Long Beach.

Her visit to the region comes exactly a year after her last one.
Mary Lee is 3,456 pounds and 16-feet long, and has traveled almost 34,000 miles since she was first tagged off Cape Cod in September 2012, according to OCEARCH.
