EAST HAMPTON, NY —A woman was arrested after driving while intoxicated with two children in her vehicle in Amagansett Sunday, police said.
According to East Hampton town police, officers conducted a traffic stop on a black 2023 Chevrolet Blazer after observing multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
Upon investigation, officers determined that Kelly V. Guerrero-Merlos, 28, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, with a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old seated in the rear of the vehicle — both of whom were unrestrained at the time of the incident, police said.
The children were not injured and were released to family members, police said.
Guerrero-Merlos, of Riverhead, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger less than 16 years old, a felony under Leandra's Law; one count of DWI; and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
In addition to the criminal charges, she was issued traffic tickets for two counts of speeding in zone; failure to stop at a stop sign; moving from lane unsafely; traffic device violation - red light; unsafe turn/failure to signal; backseat passenger age 4 to 6 with no or improper restraint; backseat passenger age 7 to 15 with no seatbelt; and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.
She was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in East Hampton Town Justice Court, police said.
