EAST HAMPTON, NY — A Bronx man, 63, was arrested after barreling into the front gate of Jay-Z and Beyonce's mansion in the Hamptons last week, police said.
According to East Hampton village police, the incident took place at 1:06 p.m. on Wednesday.
Officers arrived at the home — the residence, owned by Jay-Z and Beyonce, is located in the exclusive Georgica Pond neighborhood, the East Hampton Star reported.
At the home, officers witnessed Keith Webster sitting on the ground on the property, police said; his vehicle was in the driveway with "significant front end damage," police said.
A member of the security team, said, while he had been sitting in the security booth, he saw the vehicle traveling "at a high rate of speed" up the driveway, and failing to stop at the closed mechanical driveway gates, police said.
The witness also said that the driver continued through the gates, causing "significant damage" to the gate, police said.
The driver, in the damaged vehicle, continued through the gates and onto the property before stopping in the driveway, police said.
The witness approached the vehicle to check on the occupant and saw him sitting in the driver's seat, police said. He then verbally commanded the man to exit the vehicle, which he did, police said.
Webster was placed under arrest, complained of pain, and was taken to Stony Brook East Hampton Hospital for treatment, police said. He was later released, taken back to East Hampton village police headquarters for processing, and charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and third-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, police said. He was held for arraignment and the vehicle was impounded for evidence, police said.
His motive remains unclear, police said.
A representative for Jay-Z and Beyonce did not immediately return a request for comment.
