EAST HAMPTON, NY — East Hampton Airport was closed briefly earlier this month after a plane taxiing on the ramp clipped the wing of another parked aircraft, police said.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a statement to Patch: "The wingtip of a Gulfstream G650 struck a parked Cessna Citation while the aircraft was taxiing after landing at the East Hampton Airport in New York around 5:05 p.m. local time on Wednesday, Aug. 5. The incident occurred in an area that air traffic controllers don't manage. The FAA is investigating."
According to East Hampton Town police, officers responded to East Hampton Airport for a "reported aircraft accident," officials said.
A Gulfstream 600 aircraft "taxiing at slow speeds on the ramp in the process of parking did clip the wing of a parked Citation Latitude aircraft, causing damage to both aircraft," police said.
There was damage to both wings, police said.
There were no injuries, fires or spills, police said.
The airport tower closed the airport immediately following the collision in accordance with FAA regulations, with said closure lasting about one hour, while the scene was assessed "and the FAA confirmed there were no injuries, fuel spills or fire hazards," police said.
