EAST HAMPTON, NY — A commercial vehicle enforcement detail was conducted in East Hampton Thursday, police said.
According to officials, the effort took place on Stephen Hands Path from 5 a.m. until 1 p.m.
During the operation, officers conducted 29 commercial motor vehicle inspections, resulting in placing 16 commercial motor vehicles out of service, and the issuance of 65 summonses, officials said.
The Suffolk County Motor Carrier Safety Section, working alongside the East Hampton Town Police Department and Southampton Town Police Department, conducted the coordinated enforcement detail, which focused on commercial vehicle safety and compliance along roadways that routinely carry traffic through multiple jurisdictions, officials said.
By combining personnel and resources from several agencies, the operation was aimed at identifying potential safety hazards and promoting safer travel throughout the area, police said.
During the operation, commercial motor vehicles were inspected for a variety of safety and compliance concerns, including vehicle and equipment violations, overweight conditions, and driver-related violations, police said.
"These enforcement efforts are intended to identify unsafe vehicles before they contribute to crashes or roadway hazards, while also helping protect local infrastructure from damage associated with overweight vehicles and ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations," officials said.
The enforcement operation included members of the Suffolk County Motor Carrier Safety Section, East Hampton Town Police Department, Southampton Town Police Department, and New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, police said.
The coordinated enforcement effort is part of ongoing initiatives to improve commercial vehicle compliance and enhance public safety, police said.
