Bicyclist Dies In Hamptons Crash

The crash took place Sunday morning, police say.

AMAGANSETT, NY — An Amagansett bicyclist died after a crash Sunday morning, East Hampton Town police said.

According to police, the crash took place at 11:11 a.m. on Montauk Highway in Amagansett. Mohammed Rahman was driving a 2011 Toyota Sienna east when Russell Windsor, 70, entered the highway from the eastbound shoulder of the road, causing a crash to occur, police said.

Rahman stayed at the scene and cooperated fully; no criminality is suspected, police said.

Windsor was taken by Amagansett Ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The portion of Montauk Highway known as the Napeague stretch was closed for several hours as the investigation commenced, and has since reopened, police said.

The motor vehicle involved was impounded for a safety inspection and the investigation is continuing. Detectives asked anyone with information on the crash to call East Hampton Town Police at 631-537-7575,
