Bicyclists Raise More Than $22,000 to Fight Back Against Diabetes
The Tour of the Hamptons event benefitted the Diabetes Research Institute.
EAST HAMPTON, NY — They cycled for miles with an eye toward finding a cure for diabetes.
The Massapequa Park Bicycle Club's Tour of the Hamptons, which was held Sunday, raised more than $22,000 during its "Ride for the DRI."
A team of 35 bike riders participated, raising funds to help the Diabetes Research Institute with its ongoing mission to find a biological cure for diabetes.

Riders traversed East Hampton, Amagansett and Montauk before returning to Southampton.
“I am extremely pleased with the efforts of our DRI team of riders. We raised a large amount of money, and it all goes to help find a cure for diabetes,” said Bruce Siegel, who serves as DRI Foundation northeast region board co-chairman, along with Marc Goldfarb, in a release. “The passion of Keith Adwar and David Newman were instrumental in getting our team together and reaching our goal of raising needed funds and awareness for this great cause.”

Adwar and Newman have been riding together for years and raising money for various causes and, having had their lives touched by diabetes, decided to team up to find a cure, the release said.
The newly formed team will continue to Ride for the DRI at upcoming cycling events.
