The Hamptons International Film Festival celebrates great stories on screen. This October, Bedside Reading® is placing them off-screen too.
As filmmakers, actors and film lovers arrive on the East End, Bedside Reading is placing a curated collection of nine fall titles in 11 Hamptons hotels. Four of those titles are also going straight into the hands of festival VIPs, placed inside the official Hamptons International Film Festival gift bags on October 2.
“Film festivals remind me of something I’ve believed my entire career: everything starts with a great story,” said Jane Ubell-Meyer, founder and CEO of Bedside Reading® and a former television and film producer. “Some stories are discovered on a screen. Some are discovered on a bedside table. And sometimes the book you pick up when you least expect it becomes the one you can’t stop thinking about.”
THE FALL COLLECTION — 11 HOTELS
The Maidstone, Journey East Hampton, Mill House Inn, Hotel Moraine, The Baker House 1650, Capri Southampton, Southampton Inn, 1708 House, Canoe Place Inn &amp; Cottages, Marram Montauk, and Beachcomber Resort at Montauk.
TWISTED LIVES — Tamara Merrill. A mother’s search for her missing son unravels into a psychological thriller about memory and deception.
WHAT WE LEFT BEHIND — Valerie Nifora. A novel about the secrets families carry and the courage it takes to move forward.
THE BIG DAY — Lisa Cheek. A commitment skeptic says yes at 49, then discovers the wedding didn’t legally count.
WHAT NATURE TEACHES US — Clay and Amber Vilhauer. A mother and son find lessons in resilience through the natural world.
A RIVER REMEMBERS — Lee Clark. A forensic entomologist returns home to find a murder, a hidden family and a killer watching her every move.
TORTURED SOLES — Fran Weinstein. Twenty-two years as an entertainment TV producer, told with candor and humor.
HIS DAUGHTER — Caryn M. McGill. God’s daughter is cast down to Earth and must choose between redemption and judgment.
THE EUREKA MACHINE — Richard Socher. An AI pioneer on how artificial intelligence could compress a century of scientific discovery into a decade.
LIBERATION FROM THE DIET PRISON — Regina Oswald. A path to body-mind harmony built on compassion, not restriction.
THE FILM FESTIVAL FOUR
Four screen-worthy bestsellers, placed directly in the Hamptons International Film Festival VIP Gift Bags on October 2:
•Where the Heart Meets the Sea by Kimbra Drake
•Blood in the Low Country by Paul Attaway
•A River Remembers by Lee Clark
•Charity Trickett Is Not So Glamorous by Christine Stringer
“Discovery doesn’t always happen in a bookstore,” Ubell-Meyer added. “It can happen in a hotel room, beside a pool, or inside a gift bag at a film festival. Our job is to create those moments.”

The Church

With a warm welcome we invite Randolph Croxton to kick off our Fall Knowledge Friday series! A pioneer in green architecture with a lifelong interest in the military sciences, Mr. Croxton is a Sag Harbor gem, working hard to preserve the historical legacy of our small seaside town. The preservationist, author, and true renaissance man will discuss his own story, sharing the experiences that shaped him and how a fascination with Sag Harbor has led him to fiercely protect and honor its integrity.
Croxton wrote the introduction to the Sag Harbor Historical Museum’s Sag Harbor in the Revolution, an important book that was published this year to commemorate the village’s history and role relative to our nation’s 250th
anniversary. Therein, he illuminated the Battle of Sag Harbor, the heroic patriot attack on the British fort and garrison, and this town’s pivotal role in the 1776 formation of a nation. An elder at the Old Whaler’s Church, Croxton’s rich knowledge of our local landscape is indispensable and an incredible asset to our community.
Copies of Sag Harbor in the Revolution will be available for perusal and for purchase.
This Knowledge Friday has been programmed as a bridge between our two exhibitions. <a href="https://www.thechurchsagharbor.org/this-land-considering-the-american-landscape" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">This Land: Considering the American Landscape</a> commemorated our nation’s 250th anniversary. <a href="https://www.thechurchsagharbor.org/dear-mazie-amaza-lee-meredith-curated-amber-esseiva" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Dear Mazie</a>, honors and celebrates the life and legacy of Amaza Lee Meredith – our country’s first black queer female architect who co-founded the Azurest community of Sag Harbor. Parsons Blacksmith Shop

Heart of Springs (<a href="https://heartofsprings.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://heartofsprings.com/</a>),
will host the Third Annual SpringsFest on Saturday, October 3rd
from 4 to 7 p.m. with a rain date of October 4th from 2 to 5 p.m. The community music festival will be held on the grounds of the Parsons Blacksmith Shop at 1 Parson Place in the Heart of Springs.
“Last year's festival exceeded our expectations, and the community response was overwhelming. We're thrilled to be able to provide our resident families with another opportunity to come
together and connect. Attendees will enjoy a large craft fair, local beer and wine, food trucks, raffles, yard games, and more. For this year's music, we've decided to feature 3 local bands that are all part of the East End Originals music community,” shares Dylan Greene, member of the SpringsFest Committee at Heart of Springs.
SpringsFest 2026 will feature free concerts by M takes the Mic at 4 p.m., followed by local band REEB “Real East End Brass,” at 5 p.m., and Mamalee Rose &amp; Paul Gene performing at 6 p.m. A special history lesson from “town crier” Hugh King will take place where he will speak on the lands that surround the Springs Triangle. Food trucks will be on site for the evening serving dinners, light snacks, soft drinks and desserts. Springs Brewery beer and Springs Wines &amp; Liquors will be on site as well for those 21+ to purchase beverages.
The event will be filled with a fall fair atmosphere for families, old and new, who are welcome to bring blankets and chairs to sit and enjoy the music, food, crafts from local businesses at tables, yard games as well as a blacksmith demonstration sharing the importance of blacksmiths in our community nearly 150 years ago. Fifteen local craft fair vendors will be in attendance with booths featuring authors showcasing their new releases, beach glass items, baked goods and other handmade trinkets.
The event is free; however, donations are strongly encouraged and welcome. Any proceeds from individual and sponsorship donations will cover costs for the event but ultimately go towards Heart of Springs’ goal to raise funds to help with maintaining and restoring the historical buildings that comprise and give character to the Springs Triangle. These buildings include the Blacksmith Shop, the Springs Library, Ashawagh Hall and the Springs Community Presbyterian Church.
“In addition to SpringsFest, Lights of Love has also become a deeply meaningful and enjoyable annual gathering, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who has attended our events and who supports our work! The funds we raise go directly to refurnishing our historic buildings and supporting the programs that are the lifeblood of our community. HOS aims to protect and maintain these important traditions to preserve the past and seed the future of our hamlet,” continues Greene.
