Author Talk & Book Signing: Tom Junod in Conversation with Ada Calhoun

Event Details

East Hampton Library, 159 Main St, East Hampton, NY, 11937

Join us for an Author talk and Book Signing with two-time National Magazine Award winner Tom Junod. The conversation will be moderated by Ada Calhoun, New York Times–bestselling author.

Tom Junod’s memoir, "In the Days of My Youth I Was Told What It Means to Be a Man," has received widespread acclaim for its "bravura writing" and its deeply personal exploration of masculinity through the lens of a son’s relationship with his philandering, larger-than-life father.

In the Days of My Youth I Was Told What It Means to Be a Man is an intensely emotional detective story powered by a series of cascading revelations. The book is a triumph; it is a tale of a son reckoning with the consequences of his father’s life, and of the son’s own redemption.

The Wall Street Journal calls it "one of the great literary tributes to a complex paterfamilias." Kirkus calls it an "enthralling family memoir" and an "unromantic commentary on manhood" written with both panache and feeling."

Ada Calhoun is the New York Times–bestselling author of Crush: A Novel, hailed on the Today Show as the month's Best Romance, praised by the Washington Post for its "whirlwind of desire and possibility," and named by TIME as one of the 100 Must-Read Books of 2025. Her memoir Also a Poet was named one of the best books of 2022 by The New York Times, NPR, and The Washington Post; and longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction. A review in the NYTBR called it “a big valentine to New York City past and present, and a contribution to literary scholarship, molten with soul." Past books include Why We Can't SleepWedding Toasts I'll Never Give, and St. Marks Is Dead.
