East Hampton Drug Bust Nets Shotgun, Oxycodone, Cocaine, Cash: Police

The crackdown came after an ongoing investigation into reported drug traffic in the East Hampton area, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY: An East Hampton drug bust resulted in the seizure of a shotgun, cocaine, Oxycodone and cash, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, the investigation, in conjunction with Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota's East End Drug Task Force, led to the arrest of Melvin Smith, 50, of Morris Park Lane on March 9 at 6:10 a.m.

The investigation was sparked by reports of ongoing sale of narcotics in East Hampton, police said.

Following a search warrant, Smith was arrested and charged with three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree, a felony, one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a midemeanor, and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, a midemeanor, police said.

Smith was arraigned on March 9 and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverside, police said.
