Drunk Driver Crashes Into Utility Pole, Breaks it in Half: Police

BREAKING: The crash took place in Amagansett, police said.

AMAGANSETT, NY — An Amagansett man was arrested after he allegedly drove drunk and crashed his vehicle into a utility pole, breaking it in half, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Roland J. Pavesic, 67, was arrested on October 15 at 1:14 p.m. on Lazy Point Road in Amagansett.

Pavesic was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a non-original container, a violation, after he was found with pills in a prescription container, police said. He was also charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood, first offense, a misdemeanor, driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, and two counts of seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, police said.

Pavesic was driving a red 2005 Chevy Tahoe southwest on Lazy Point Road near Mulford Lane when he failed to maintain lane and use the designated lane, crashing into a PSEG utility pole and breaking it in half, police said.

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet; he performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests issued, police said.

He was released on his own recognizance, police said.
