Drunk Driver Crosses Into Wrong Lane in East Hampton: Cops

The man was slapped with a misdemeanor charge, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was charged with driving drunk and crossing into the opposite lane, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Julio Garcia-Lugo, 48, was arrested on October 26 at 6:56 p.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor.

Garcia-Lugo was driving a 2015 Toyota north on Hedges Lane by the intersection of Old Montauk Highway when he moved from his designated lane of travel unsafely by going onto the shoulder of the roadway and then overcorrecting the vehicle by failing to keep right and crossing into the opposite lane of travel, police said.

Upon investigation, Garcia-Lugo had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet, police said; he also performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.

He was released on his own recognizance, police said.
