Drunk Driver Flees Scene, Caught When Car Breaks Down: Police
BREAKING: The driver's car became disabled due to a broken front passenger wheel, police said.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was arrested after he drove drunk and tried to flee the scene only to have his car break down, police said.
According to East Hampton Town Police, David A. Steckowski, 41, was arrested on Dec. 4 at 6:13 p.m. after an incident at the intersection of Long and Newtown Lanes, and charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood, first offense, a misdemeanor, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
Steckowksi was driving a 2014 Ford south on Long Lane near the intersection of Newtown Lane when he was in a crash, then left the scene; his vehicle became disabled due to a broken front passenger wheel near Gould Street, by the intersection of Cedar Street, police said.

Upon contact, Steckowski was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.
He was released on his own recognizance, police said.
