Drunk Driver In Porsche Leaves Scene Of Crash, Man Hurt: Cops

He was driving a black Porsche while intoxicated when he struck another vehicle, injuring a man, and left the scene, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A drunk driver was arrested after he left the scene of a crash where a man was injured, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Nicholas John Ferguson, 24, of New York, NY, was arrested on Sunday at 1:53 a.m. on South Eton St. in Montauk; he was driving a 2014 black Porsche north, near the intersection of Montauk Highway, while intoxicated, police said. Ferguson failed to stop for a stop sign and failed to signal as required while heading west, police said.

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet, and performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests given, police said.

It was later learned that he'd been in a crash, with injuries, at South Emerson Ave. and South Eton St. and had left the scene without showing his license or insurance information, and without reporting the incident, police said. The man in the other vehicle sustained injuries to his head, neck, back and leg, which required medical treatment at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, police said.

Ferguson was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, and operator leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, first offense, a misdemeanor, police said.

Cash bail was set at $3,000, police said.
