Drunk Driver Slapped With Felony Charges: Police

The drunk driver was caught failing to maintain his lane and speeding, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man is facing felony DWI charges, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Luis Redroban-Gonzalez was arrested on Sunday at 1:20 a.m. on Stephen Hands Path near Long Lane after he was seen failing to maintain his lane several times as well as speeding.

Upon investigation, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech, and bloodshot, glassy eyes, and was also found to be unsteady on his feet, police said. He performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests administered, police said.

He had a prior conviction of driving with .08 of one percent or more alcohol in blood in 2013 out of Nassau County, police said.

Redroban-Gonzalez was charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1% or more alcohol, prior conviction designated offense within 10 years, a felony, DWI, previous conviction of designated offense within 10 years, a felony, first degree aggravated unlicensed operation 2/alcohol or drug, a felony, and using a leased/rented/loaned vehicle not equipped with an interlock device, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was remanded into the custody of the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, police said.
