East Hampton Police Apprehend Man Who Fired Shotgun At Home In Springs

Police tweeted that the situation was resolved and schools were given the all-clear.

East Hampton Village Police say that a situation earlier Friday that put local schools on lockout has now been resolved.

East Hampton Star reported that East Hampton Town police responded to a call Friday morning of a shotgun fired at a home on Gardiner Avenue in Springs.

An unidentified man reportedly had barricaded himself inside his house and threatened to set it up fire. A staging area was set up at Jericho and Georgica roads and police advised the neighbor to evacuate the area, according to East Hampton Star.

Several roads were closed and traffic was diverted.

Officers were dispatched back to Springs area at about 12:30 p.m. and an East Hampton police captain was in telephone negotiations with a subject, East Hampton Star reports.

They ended up cornering the man they believed to have fired the gun in the area of Crossways.

Newsday reported that one person was taken to Southampton Hospital for minor injuries from a shotgun blast.

The man, believed to be suicidal, was driving a black Cadillac Escalade and was said to be armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to 27east.

Springs School was on lockdown, Wainscott School was not letting anyone in or out of the school and the East Hampton School District was on lockout mode, not letting anyone in or out of the school buildings, 27east reports. Police gave the schools the all clear once the suspect was in custody.
