East Hampton Supervisor To Retire: 'I Am Blessed'
East Hampton Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc will not seek election to a fourth term, he announced Friday.

EAST HAMPTON, NY – East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc announced his decision Friday to bid adieu to his post.
"I have decided to retire from public service at the end of this year, and not to seek re-election to a fourth term as East Hampton town supervisor," Van Scoyoc said. "This decision has been made after thoughtful consideration and consultation with my family over the holidays. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to serve the town I love, to work with dedicated and intelligent town board colleagues and staff, and to have met so many interesting and talented residents and individuals during my tenure."
December will mark 12 years spent on the East Hampton town board, 6 years as supervisor and a total of 23 years of service to the town, he said.

"This time has been marked by daunting challenges but also by many successes. I am proud of the work that has been accomplished by the town board under my leadership and I feel that the town is currently on solid footing," he said.
He added: "As move on to other endeavors, I will always be grateful to the people of East Hampton for the faith and confidence they have placed in me to lead the town over these many years."

In his recent state of the town address, Van Scoyoc outlines his priorities for the coming year,including the affordable housing crisis, an airport update, the need for enhanced wireless communications, renewable energy plans, and more.
When he was elected in 2018, Van Scoyoc replaced former East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell.
In January, 2017, Cantwell announced that he was bidding adieu to the town's top seat.
