East Hampton Town Police Make 18 Arrests During Holiday Weekend

The police have stepped up enforcement this summer resulting in increased arrests this Labor Day weekend.

The East Hampton Town Police’s stepped up enforcement throughout the summer proved successful as the season came to a close this Labor Day weekend.

This past weekend, police answered 450 calls for service (200 in Montauk), made 18 arrests (five in Montauk) including 10 DWI’s, issued 85 vehicle and traffic citations, 35 Town ordinance summons and eight commercial noise violations, according to the department’s Facebook page.

This was a considerable increase from the “crazy” Fourth of July weekend, when police wrote up 21 parking tickets and 23 town code summons on Friday, July 3, and in Montauk on Saturday night, police wrote 37 town ordinances, 16 parking tickets, 24 traffic citations and made five arrests.

Police stepped up enforcement when local residents became angry after the “out of control” Fourth of July weekend, claiming that the party scene in Montauk has gotten out of control.

As a result police as well as fire and code enforcement personnel have been authorized overtime funding for the summer.

On the weekend of August 28, police have responded to 340 calls for service (153 in Montauk), made nine arrests (three in Montauk) including three DWI’s, issued 40 Town ordinance summons (24 in Montauk) and issued 34 traffic and vehicle law summons (20 in Montauk).
