Friends Raise Funds For Bench To Remember Beloved Golfer
"Jay wasn't interested in shooting a low score. He only wanted to be out there, have fun and have bragging rights for the following week."

MONTAUK, NY —Friends have come together to honor the memory of a dear friend and avid golfer.
A GoFundMe page, "Jay (Bird) Scott Memorial Bench," was created by Declan Conroy of Montauk.
"As you may know, our good friend Jay Bird was a very enthusiastic golfer, among other things. We had the same foursome for over 10 years and played mostly Sunday mornings at the Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course. It was the highlight of all our weeks, but especially for Jay —he loved the camaraderie of being out on the course."

Jay, he added, "wasn't interested in shooting a low score; he only wanted to be out there and have fun and have bragging rights for the following week."
To honor him, friends would like to have a memorial bench installed in his name on the course at the Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course. The cost of the bench is $1500; once the goal is reached, Conroy said he will organize with the golf course "and get it going . . . I would like to thank you all in advance for donating to honor our friend Jay."
