Hamptons Man Stole More Than $25K Of Equipment: Cops

He stole leaf blowers, tools, and two vehicles, police say, all valued at more than $25K.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was slapped with a string of felony charges after he stole leaf blowers and other tools from a series of locations, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Christopher L. Metz, 43, was arrested after the grand larcenies, which took place at a number of dates.

On Nov. 4 to 5, 2017, Metz, police said, stole two Redmax leaf blowers worth $1,099.98 from a trailer on Springs Fireplace Road; he was charged with fourth degree grand larceny, property value greater than $1000, a felony; on Nov. 15, 2017, between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., he also stole a Honda generator, Hitachi jack hammer, a Dewalt table saw, a Makita 18V drill set, and three Stihl concrete saws from a white Dejana truck body located on Tan Bark Trail in East Hampton, police said. Those items were valued at$9,579.99; he was charged with third degree grand larceny, property value exceeds $3,000, a felony, police said.

In addition, from March 27 to March 28, 2018, he removed two Redmax backpack blowers, three Stihl chainsaws, and one Echo chainsaw, with a total value of $3,550, from a storage trailer on Tan Bark Trail, police said. He was charged with third degree grand larceny, property value exceeds $3,000, a felony, police said.

Also on March 27 to March 28, 2018, he took one Redmax backpack blower, one Stihl hedge trimmer and one Hitachi chop saw, valued at $1,600 without permission from a trailer on Tan Bark Trail; he was charged with fourth degree grand larceny, property value greater than $1,000, a felony, police said.

Between March 27 and 28, he also took, from an unlocked shed, a white Chevy van and a white Chevrolet dump truck valued at $2,950 from Tan Bark Trail; he was charged with fourth degree grand larceny, property value greater than $1,000, a felony, police said. He also broke the rear passenger side window of a 1997 white Chevrolet van, using a rock, and was charged with criminal mischief, intent to damage property, a misdemeanor, police said.

Also on March 27 to 28, he removed a Honda generator, a Stihl concrete saw, and a Honda generator, valued at $7,080, from a white Dejana truck body; he was charged with third degree grand larceny, property value greater than $3,000, a felony, police said.

And, on March 28, he was found with a Redmax leaf blower and was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of stolen property, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was held without bail, police said.
