But now, Condé Nast Traveller has named the Hamptons as one of "Best Summer Holiday Destinations 2017".

The post, which lists an array of luxury international "beachy hideaways," points out that even with its "reputation for being exclusive," the Hamptons are a great destination for families with children, "a down-to-earth spot where your crew will enjoy fresh-air freedom."

The post also offers tips on where to park and to rent a bike, where to find a delicious lobster roll — and where to find artistic inspiration in the footsteps of Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning.

Once they've packed up the family and headed out to their blissful beachfront retreats, families can find plenty for kids to do, with spots such as the Children's Museum of the East End and the Goat On A Boat Puppet Theatre perennial favorites.
