Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued For Long Island This Weekend: What To Know

LONG ISLAND, NY — A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Long Island this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

"An approaching frontal system acting on a very moist air mass may produce heavy rainfall capable of causing isolated to scattered flooding Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening. The Weather Prediction Center has much of the area in a 'slight risk of excessive rainfall,'" the NWS said.

Here's a look at the forecast for the weekend, according to the NWS:

Sunny, with a high near 79. Northwest wind around 9 mph.

Friday night

Partly cloudy, with a low around 55. Northeast wind 6 to 14 mph.

Saturday

Partly sunny, with a high near 67. Northeast wind 7 to 11 mph.

Saturday night

Increasing clouds, with a low around 54. Southeast wind around 5 mph.

Sunday

Showers, mainly after 2 p.m. High near 69. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Sunday night

Showers. Low around 58. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Monday

Showers likely, mainly before 8 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

A 50 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55.
