Historical Society Craft Fair Set For Second House This Saturday

This Saturday and Sunday the Montauk Historical Society will hold its 40th annual craft fair on the grounds of the Second House Museum.

The event, held twice annually – once in July and once in August – brings together local craftsmen who make their own products. Among the wares for sale will be jewelry, children's clothes, artwork, photography, vinegars, jams and jellies.

The proceeds of the event will go towards the upkeep of Second House, which, while owned by the town East Hampton, is maintained operated by the historical society itself. Apart from maintenance and staff salaries, part of the proceeds will go toward an ongoing project to turn a small building on the grounds into Montauk's only exhibition on the local Indian tribes.

Second House, built in 1797, is the oldest house still standing in Montauk. The museum which offers almost daily tours through its collection of early photographs and artifacts is open six days a week from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed Wednesdays.
