HOT OFF THE PRESSES!

STRONG-CUEVAS DRAWINGS: Ideas on Paper

Abrams Books, the premier publisher of art books, will be publishing a lavishly illustrated book of drawings by the celebrated sculptor Strong-Cuevas. The book contains 190 color and black-and-white drawings, spanning a period of 40 years. All the drawings have been thematically arranged and explore recurring themes of Strong-Cuevas’ art, regardless of medium. The book features a foreword by noted art critic, Jan Garden Castro, who has written extensively about Georgia O’Keeffe, Louise Bourgeois, Maya Linn, and numerous others. The book is scheduled for publication in mid March.

Strong-Cuevas says that her work expresses thoughts about universal consciousness, space and time, and inner mediation. Known for her sculptures made from bronze, stainless steel, and aluminum, Strong-Cuevas’ art often portrays the human head and plays with scale. Her drawings are no different, for they express the same themes, but are rarely used as diagrams for her sculpture.

Works by Strong-Cuevas are in major museums and many private collections. Her previous book, also published by Abrams, was a critically acclaimed book of her sculpture, entitled STRONG-CUEVAS SCULPTURE: Premonitions in Retrospect.
