'International Overdose Awareness Day' Marked On LI With Vigil, Mural

Narcan training will also be offered, a vigil will be held, and luminaria will be lighted for those lost to addiction.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — The community will come together to mourn those lost to overdoses and addiction Thursday — and to work together to honor their legacies with hope and resilience.

The event, which will be held Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Phoenix House New York's outpatient center, located at 287 Springs Fireplace Road in East Hampton, marks "International Overdose Awareness Day."

New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele will attend the event, which will feature the reveal of a new mural; Narcan training and free Narcan kits; guest speaker Kevin McEneaney; refreshments; and the decoration of luminaria.

In addition, there will be a candlelight vigil to honor those who lost their lives to the scourge of addiction, and the "unseen daily heroes," including family, first responders, and medical professionals, organizers said.

During "Conversation and Connection," those gathered will aim to rebuild resilience among individuals, families and significant others impacted by substance abuse.
