Man Caught Driving Drunk in Amagansett: Police

The driver was arrested early Sunday, police said.

AMAGANSETT, NY — A Flanders man spent the night in jail after he was caught driving drunk in Amagansett, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Michael A. Goericke, 27, was heading east when he was arrested on Saturday at 11:45 p.m. on Montauk Highway near Napeague Harbor Road, after passing another vehicle on the left in a "no passing" zone.

He had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests, police said.

Goericke was charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense, a misdemeanor, police said.
