Man Charged With Driving While Impaired By Drugs: Cops

He was stopped for driving over the fog line, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was arrested after he was caught driving while impaired by drugs, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Evan F. Hoffman, 30, was arrested on Oct. 17 at 10:51 p.m. on Springs Fireplace Road and charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, first offense, a misdemeanor.

He was stopped after he was seen failing to maintain his lane of travel by driving over the fog line, police said.

Upon investigation, his "eyes were glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slow and sluggish, his pupils were constricted, his eyelids were droopy, he was unsteady on his feet, he had poor coordination, his movements were sluggish, he displayed an inability to focus, and appeared to have a dry mouth, police said.

He was administered field sobriety tests and performed poorly on all; he was also administered advanced roadside impaired driving enforcement tests in which indications of impairment were present, police said.

He was released on his own recognizance, police said.
