Man Charged With DWI Spits On Officer: Police
The incident took place in Montauk, police say.

MONTAUK, NY — A Montauk man was arrested recently after he was caught driving while intoxicated and then, spit on an officer, police said.
According to East Hampton Town police, Justin Michael Jones, 52, was arrested at 5:09 p.m. on July 31 on West Lake Drive. Jones was driving a four-door, black 2020 Chevy Malibu sedan south on West Lake Drive near Flamingo Avenue when he failed to stop at a stop sign and then passed a vehicle on the right and drove over hazardous markings on Flamingo Avenue, police said. He then made an improper left turn from Flamingo Avenue onto Kirk Avenue, police said.
Upon contacting Jones, he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech, and bloodshot, glassy eyes; he was also unsteady on his feet and performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests, police said.

In addition, he spit on an officer while the officer was doing arrest paperwork, police said.
Jones was arrested and charged with felony DWI due to a prior conviction within 10 years, as well as second-degree harassment, a violation, police said.

He was released on his own recognizance, police said.
