Man Charged With Felony DWI In East Hampton: Police

He was arrested in East Hampton, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated recently, police said.

On March 26, Ismael C. Penafiel, 35, was arrested at 1 a.m. on Abrahams Path in East Hampton and charged with felony DWI due to a previous conviction within the past 10 years, East Hampton Town police said.

Penafiel was driving a 2022 black Chevrolet north on Abrahams Path near Springs Fireplace Road when he failed to use the designated lane and drove to the left of the pavement markings, police said. Upon investigation, he had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurred speech, and was unsteady on his feet; he also performed poorly on all administered standardized field sobriety tests, police said.
