Man Charged With Felony DWI In East Hampton: Police

An officer had previously warned the intoxicated man, who was standing outside his vehicle, not to drive, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — A Holtsville man was arrested in East Hampton Saturday and charged with felony driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to East Hampton Village police, Christian G. Carabajo Fuela, 31, was arrested at 10:31 p.m. Friday on Spencer Avenue. An officer saw Carabajo Fuela driving a 2020 white Ford van heading east on Park Place and failing to signal a right onto Main Street, police said.

Carbajo Fuela had breath that smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, his eyes were watery and bloodshot, his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet, and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests, police said.

Carbajo Fuela also had a previous DWI conviction, police said. He was arrested and charged with second-degree felony DWI and second-degree felony driving with .08 of 1 percent or more alcohol, as well as traffic violations, police said.

An officer had previously seen Carbajo Fuela standing outside his vehicle and advised him not to drive, police said.

He was held for morning arraignment, police said.
