Man Drowns in Southampton's Big Fresh Pond
The 29-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday afternoon, police say.

A 29-year-old New Jersey man drowned in Big Fresh Pond at Southamptonβs Emma Rose Elliston Park on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The Southampton Town Police Department received a call of a possible drowning at the beach located at 45 Millstone Brook Road shortly before 4 p.m.
Responding officers were advised that about 15 minutes prior a swimmer had dove under the water and not resurfaced, police said. A search and rescue operation was immediately initiated that involved the North Sea, Hampton Bays, Sag Harbor and Mastic fire departments, as well as a Suffolk County Police Aviation unit.

At about 5:19 p,m., divers found Angel De Santiago Martinez. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body as transported to the Suffolk County Medical Examinerβs Office for examination. The Southampton Town Police Detective Division is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 631-702-2230.
