Man Faces Felony DWI Charges: Police

Cash bail was set at $5,000, police say.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An Oceanside man was busted and charged with driving drunk in East Hampton, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, John S. Hart, 67, was arrested on May 13 at 3:33 p.m. on Pantigo Road after he was seen in a 2002 Infinity sedan heading west near Amy's Lane and driving over both the double yellow center lane markings and the shoulder of the road markings. Upon investigation he was found to have the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech, bloodshot, glassy eyes, and was unsteady on his feet; he also performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests, police said. He had a prior DWI conviction in 2012 in Southampton, police said.

Hart was charged with operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1% or more alcohol, prior conviction of designated offense within 10 years, a felony, and DWI, previous conviction of designated offense within 10 years, a felony, police said.
