Man Killed In Hamptons Crash: Cops

Police believe that the man, 74, had a medical emergency before the crash.

EAST HAMPTON, NY — An East Hampton man was killed in a crash Sunday morning, police said.

According to East Hampton Town Police, Juan C. Chitarroni, 74, was heading south on Springs Fireplace Rd. in East Hampton in a 2016 Chevrolet when he struck a 2013 Toyota that was traveling north.

Chitarroni was transported via ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead; it's believed he had some sort of medical emergency just prior to the crash, police said.

The driver in the Toyota was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Detectives are still investigating and ask that anyone who may have witnessed the crash contact the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential.
