Police ID Man Whose Body Was Found In Three Mile Harbor
Clammers found his body on a grass island in the water off Folkstone Road in Springs, police say.
SPRINGS, NY — The man whose body was found in the water in Springs Friday night has been identified as Edward J. Garbowski, 62, of East Hampton, police said.
According to East Hampton town police, the incident took place at 7:36 p.m. at Three Mile Harbor, off Folkstone Road.
On Friday night, East Hampton town police and EMS personnel responded after individuals clamming in the area discovered an unresponsive adult man on an exposed grass island in the waters off Folkstone Road, police said.

Equipment consistent with harvesting shellfish was located with the man, police said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears Garbowski may have suffered a medical emergency prior to his death, police said.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders; , police said.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, pending the findings of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, police said.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives have found no evidence of suspicious circumstances and foul play is not suspected, police said.

As of Saturday night, the investigation remains ongoing. The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, in conjunction with the East Hampton Town Police Department's detective division, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Garbowski's death, police said. The cause and manner of death remain pending the medical examiner's report, police said.
